MORE FAST & FURIOUS 4 @ INSIDELINE.COM: www.edmunds.com Trailer Courtesy of Universal Almost six months before filming was set to begin on Fast and Furious, the movie's picture car coordinator Dennis McCarthy was already running out of space to hold all the cars, trucks, semis and trailers being built for the production. This was way back in October 2007 and it was McCarthy's job to bring together every vehicle that would be seen on-screen in the fourth in The Fast and the Furious series. Sound easy? It wasn't; there were going to be more than 200 of them. "Reading the script, it was obvious this was going to be bigger than Tokyo Drift," said McCarthy, who had the same job on that third Fast/Furious film. "And a lot more of them were going to be 'specialty cars' that we'd have to build ourselves." So despite having more than 60000 square feet of shop space to work in, Dennis McCarthy was already running out of room.
Wrongly imprisoned for murder, Frank Webster (John Ireland) breaks out of jail to try and clear his name. With the police in hot pursuit, he's forced to take a beautiful young woman (Dorothy Malone) in a fast sports car hostage. Together they slip into a cross-border car race in an attempt to make it to Mexico before the police catch up.
This was the most work of any supercut we've done yet. I'm actually ashamed of how long this took. But it was ultimately completely worth it. YouTuber SteveBrandon suggested over in the comments on our Kickboxer video that we cut down the original Fast & Furious film to just the gear-shifting. We went one better and did all five movies in one giant supercut. Rules: It had to be an obvious gear-shift moment, with the hand/gearshift at least partially showing on screen (there are several moments in the films where you see a character's shoulder move as they shift gears, but those didn't count unless you could also see part of the hand). Everything else--barring the brief titles for each film--was cut.
