This eau de toilette is a sheer citrus with just enough woodiness and warmth to set it apart from a standard cologne. The creator is Jean Claude Ellena, master of complex compositions that wear very transparently...like all his Hermes creations: Terre d'Hermès, Kelly Caleche, Jardin un Mediterranee, his Bulgari Green Tea, Frederic Malle L'eau d'Hiver, he did that one...busy guy! Right off the first spray, Voyage d'Hermès is a gin and tonic: aromatic with lemon/lime and herbs. It's crisp, it's refreshing, it's sporty -- say it in French, it sounds fancy: "C'est tres sportif!" If it is a sports fragrance, it's one with brains and taste. Which means it can't be a sports fragrance. To begin with, Voyage d'Hermès kind of reminded me of Annick Goutal Eau d'Hadrien, but when I sprayed them both on to compare, Eau d'Hadrien was blockier, more "lemon, wood, arrrr, klonk!", and by contrast, Voyage d'Hermès was smoooooove. Voyage d'Hermès is more precision engineered. After the gin and tonic start, the sparkling top notes ease back into the mix, which becomes an ambient hum of cedarwood, pepper, and clean musk.
