"There was this femme burlesque troop that was all queer, and was made up of the most beautiful and incredible womenI personally feel like I was forever changed."During the 2009 Vancouver Queer Film Festival the Queer History Project and our Artist-in-Residence local filmmaker Gwen Haworth (Shes A Boy I Knew) hosted a creative community-based oral history project—a mobile video tent modeled after City TVs Speakers Corner—called the Speakers Cabaña. Over 75 Festival audience members in shared their own autobiographical stories. These are the questions they were asked - 1. Talk about a memorable queer kiss. 2. What is one of your favorite queer spaces? Why? 3. What was a pivotal moment for you or for your community?
This show is all about talented women. Mary Satterfield is a champion fisherwoman and she'll take Lori and Kate out to her favorite lake, Lake Shelbyville, and attempt to teach them to fish like champions too! And she hasn't made it onto Ace of Cakes or Cake Boss yet, but Buffy Vance of Madeline's Confectionery in Urbana has a pretty impressive craft all on her own. She'll tell us all about sugar art in this episode. Finally, Suzanna Fairley doesn't take art lightly, despite the fact that she paints on feathers. Her love for painting on any and everything has brought her to feathers and what she creates is nothing short of amazing!
