This is an example of the dreaded "clicking noise", often signifying a defective hard drive. What a pity this drive is brand new and has no obvious SMART errors, even after an extensive test with smartctl. Take a look at the delays (appearance of icons in Finder) caused by this annoying self-parking. No more realtime audio editing possible. I wonder what Western Digital has to say about this, as this is the replacement for the same type of drive which had bad sectors - but NO clicking sounds. Customer service had me waiting for "just a month" now after the swap. Not that great. At least they replied, but with no real information about this issue... 1/2 of 5 stars.
