I found this rare, vintage 1980's Revell-ESCI BMW M1 street-version model kit at a swap meet. The M1 was a pretty rare car in it's day, and especially rare as a model kit. The ESCI M1 injection mold tooling was acquired by Revell of Germany, and they rereleased it as a Procar racing version a few years ago. The kit is precisely molded in thin walls, creating a more realistic appearance. The build was straight forward, except the location of the rear axle was off just a tad, the rear engine cover was a bit short and didn't meet up with the rear fascia, and attaching the chassis to the underside of the body's front cowling required a bit of modification. All I added were front side windows, roundel decals for the wheel hubs, and gave the soft rubber tires a soaking in vinyl renewal to restore elasticity. Track one down at your next model kit swap meet or at auction, it's a nice model to add to any collection. Thanks for viewing! |
