Many of us find ourselves questioning the deeper meaning of life when the answers we're given from outside sources come up empty. It's hard to hang onto our inner calling. Something inside screams 'take me away'... I personally seek refuge in fantasies, dreams and nature; "Castles and waterfalls, mountains and firesides". Some around us seem to be wasting their life moments just going through the motions in a redundant path of excess, while those who don't fit the stereotypes for success wither; all the while, the media-drugged would-be-visionaries stand by the window and watch the video game play out. The second half of this song is an instrumental representation inspired by those places of refuge where the song always sings silently in my soul... This is a video of one of my performances at Java Central in Uptown Westerville. I am using my Audio-Technica ATM73a mic, an Ovation Balladeer, a Digitech Vocalist Live 3 and a Boss RC-3 Loop Station. Video was recorded using a Kodak Zi8 using the on-camera mic. Me performing my new single, 'Canarian' - achieved through a mixture of live playing, singing, programming and live looping. Recorded in session at Brocksford Avenue. An HD version of this video and the original single are both available for FREE download from my website. www.stevetitford.com In August 2008, whilst out in Fuerteventura, I wrote and recorded a song titled 'Canarian (Viva Las Canarias)'. Since its first play on QFM, 'Canarian' has received lots of airplay on Fuerteventura and across the Canary Islands. After seeing Thomas Dolby perform an amazing solo version of his song 'Leipzig' I decided to rework 'Canarian' so I could play it live on my own in a similar way. From the last day of Music at Espresso Yourself Music Cafe... "Dreamworld" is one of my original compositions for my band so I originally intented to have drums, bass, keys and additional instruments. As a personal challenge, I tweaked the song to fit into my solo acoustic set to see if I could pull it off...not that the song is that difficult to play, it's just that all the changes and dynamics become my sole responsibility to represent. The song is intended to musically portray the stages in a dream state of mind: be it a daydream or sleeping dream... asking the question; is our own personal dream world just another extension of reality? Our dreams often reflect our longings, our quest for eternity and our hopes . We cannot disregard our dreams with logic-based indifference if we wish to protect our hopes, our sense of self and our desire to believe in advanced dimensions after death.... In this effort my Ovation Balladeer is routed thru the Vocalist Live Pro, then into the Boss GT3 , thru the Yamaha MG82cx mixer, with the the DigiTech JamMan Solo looper routed thru the MG82cx effects send... then into the house PA. I am singing thru the Audio-Technica ATM-73a into the Digitech Vocalist Live Pro , which is also routed thru the MG82cx. The audio feed in this video is from Mix Master, Ben Ahlteen, using the house board at EMYC - audio was captured using the line input of the Kodak Zi8 camcorder (the same camcorder I used to record my live album) Please pardon the low <b>...</b> |

Are You Aware (Psych Folk RUaWear) Rejyna performs Are You Aware (RUaWear) from her live solo CD "Solo Sojourn" [www.cdbaby.com/cd/rejyna] at Espresso Yourself Music Café, a song she also contributed to the Citadel CD's ~ but here Rejyna is putting a solo spin on the piece using a DigiTech Vocalist Live 3 for harmonies triggered from her Ovation and ATM73a headset mike. As her lyrics below show, this song is about reaching out to others, caring about yourself and the world around you. Spelling out the word 'Aware' and encouraging the listener to "stand strong on your ground", Rejyna uses the mellow whisper-like bridge to expand upon her message of edification. Rejyna comments, "I cram practically my whole life mantra into the bridge of this song because I want others to be encouraged by the unique contribution they can make to themselves and those around them simply by becoming more aware, and choosing to see life through with as much fortitude and honor as possible. Sappy and mushy? Sure, you could call it that. Ever been told you're 'too young' to know anything, or 'too old' to be in sync with current times? I composed the lyrics to this song to delve into the concepts of youth vs. aging and how age sometimes does, and other times doesn't bear relevance to the way a person may perceive themselves and others. We can ask ourselves if we still hold awe and wonder as precious parts of our outlook on life. We can look around and see examples of those who are living each day with childlike surprise and contrasting examples of those who are living the same day over and over again... The many musical movements in this song are arranged to correlate with the lyrical assertions like 'I have my need to be free' and 'I'm still me' -- When the song reaches the looper-based bridge, it becomes a floating, spiraling, hypnotic passage that I intend to represent the wonder, awe and anticipation that I hold for life as a 'Child in Wonder' This rendition of "In Wonder" was performed on the last day of music at Espresso Yourself Music Café, which is a place that also exemplifies the spirit of following ones true instincts, and the practice of breaking away from watching the 'garden sprinkler spray' by becoming a part of something alive and vibrant.
