Some time ago, I wanted to buy a microphone for a boompole. I am a hobby filmmaker, so I don't have a big budget, but I find sound to be very important and wanted a nice mic. Don't make fun of my English, it was very early in the morning and I know I have a weird accent. In the beginning of the video, I am testing some stuff for myself, namely two different ways to record: - A Zoom H2 Recorder with miniplug connection - An M-Audio Fast Track Pro Then I am trying out some additional microphones: - Internal mic of my Canon Legria HFS 10 - Canon DM-100 mounted on the camera (about 200 Euros) - Thomann t.bone EM 9600 (about 50 Euros) At 05:50 minutes, I am starting to actually record with the two main testing microphones: - Rode NTG-2 (about 200 Euros) - Beyerdynamic MCE 86 SII CAM (about 300 Euros) Everyone has to decide for themselves. Still, for those who are interested, here is my opinion: 1. Yes, it does matter which audio interface I record with. By now, I have spent some additional money on a Fostex field recorder, which I got pretty cheap on eBay. If you want a new device, I think the Zoom H4n is sufficient and a good value. 2. The noise of the MCE 86 is higher. The output level too, but even when the levels are adjusted, there is more white noise. Advantage for Rode here. 3. The sound of the Beyerdynamic is crispier and more clear, especially with the Deadcat. Rode has stronger and more present low frequencies. 4.
