This is a 1947 Dodge WJ-57 2 1/2 ton truck. This was purchased by the South Euclid (Ohio) Fire Dept. as a pumper. It was "retired" in the early '70's and stored in a barn. I purchased it at auction and got the old girl running and looking like new again with a lot of help. It has 15575 original miles. It starts and runs very well, as you can hear. I plan to put an old wooden water well drilling rig on the back of her. I kept the lights and sirens (which all work!) and "American Fire Apparatus" badge on the truck, and I plan on saving the bed and equipment, because it could easily be turned back into a firetruck if I ever decide to do so. I'll try and post a video in the future with all of the lights on and the siren working. It has a 282 ci flathead six cyl. engine that was built exclusively for the WJ series, which were only produced in '46 and '47, making this a pretty rare truck. The truck has a 5 speed transmission and a single speed rear end and factory power hydraulic/ vacuum assisted brakes, as well as factory electric windshield wipers. I left the system 6 volt. I've replaced everything on the brake system except for the shoes, new head gasket, rebuilt the carb and fuel pump, re-lubed the original wheel bearings, new plugs, points, and condensor, cracked manifold repaired, and had the frame and wheels sand blasted and the entire truck painted. |
