Supermarine Spitfire Mk IIa displays at the presentation of a new Squadron Standard to 41 (R) Squadron, Royal Air Force at Coningsby on 23rd September 2011. This year is the 95th anniversary of 41 Squadron, RAF. The Spitfire Mk IIa (P7350) of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight has been re-painted with the 41 Squadron war time code EB-G, to represent a Spitfire flown by 41 Squadron fighter pilot, Flight Lieutenant Eric Stanley Lock DSO DFC & Bar. Flight Lieutenant Eric Lock became the highest scoring RAF fighter pilot of the Battle of Britain while flying with 41 Squadron. He has been credited with destroying 21 enemy aircraft during the Battle of Britain. 41 (R) Test and Evaluation Squadron at Coningsby currently fly the Panavia Tornado GR4 fast jet bomber aircraft. 41 Squadron Tornado GR4s all carry the codes of particular war time Spitfires. This includes EB-G flown by Flight Lieutenant Eric Lock DSO DFC* and EB-R flown by Squadron Leader HRL "Robin" Hood who was Officer Commanding 41 Squadron when he died in action during the Battle of Britain on 5th September 1940.
