www.dvcreators.net This is a quick and dirty audio comparison of the Sennheiser mkh-416 (simply called 416 by most) and the new Rode NTG-3. Looking at the NTG-3 specs it's easy to see why this is the obvious comparison, because clearly Rode was firing a cannon shot across Sennheiser's bow. It is my opinion that the NTG-3, at about HALF the price of a 416 (or less) will quickly become known as the go-to mic for location videographers who want the sound AND functionality of a high-end gun, like a 416, for a price that's in the range of entry level shotguns. I can hear the difference in these mics, but the differences are slight, and in many cases I actually prefer the tonality of the NTG-3 over the 416. For the record, both mics were run directly into an original model DVX100... with equal levels set on the camera... and the 416 required a 2db boost in post to match the NTG-3 levels. |
